No Hula. No Eddie. Plenty Waimea Bay Action.

A slow day for hula, but a great day for big waves on the north shore of Oahu.

Even though The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau contest was a no-go today, there were still solid 50 foot face waves to be ridden. Contest director George Downing made the call this morning at Waimea Bay and put it on hold in hopes that the building swell and a better wind direction forcasted for tomorrow would provide for more ideal conditions for the event.

Where did the month of October go? It’s hard to believe the winter season is right around the corner and we’re a few months from 2010. Forgive me for the long delay in updating our blog, it has been an action packed month of hula along with meeting new and interesting people. Hawaii still feels the same as it did weeks ago, maybe slightly cooler in the past couple of days with a few rain showers here and there. Windward Oahu. Tokoro Surfboards.

The Windward side of Oahu is always beautiful to see, with lush agricultural areas, the stunning Ko‘olau mountain range and radiant beaches that stretch across the coastline. No matter how many times I travel there using the Likelike Highway, I'm in awe of the panoramic view right after you exit the tunnel. It's really an amazing sight, but it only lasts for a few seconds and then it's blocked by the trees. It's a little difficult to capture that moment with a camera, because the highway is very busy and there's no safe areas to pull over where the view is seen best... more »
